Behind the Scenes
|Clarinetist Mary Kantor received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Washington and graduated from the Academy of Music in Vienna with Honors in clarinet performance.
She was principal clarinetist with the Bellevue Philharmonic for 12 years. As an active free-lance musician, she regularly performs in orchestral, chamber, and klezmer music settings, and can be heard on movie soundtracks as well as classical recordings.
As an educator, in addition to maintaining a private clarinet studio, she is Professor of clarinet at Seattle Pacific University and coaches the Seattle Youth Symphony, Cascade Youth Symphony, and Bellevue Youth Symphony clarinet sections.
|Qiang Qiang (prefers Hester) – Born and raised in China, Hester received her BA in Music Performance and MA in Music, studying 20th Century American Music at South China University of Technology.
During her studies, she was involved in a variety of arts administration duties. Apart from being a viola performer in SCUT Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2009, the role of assistant manager allowed her to take on many important responsibilities. Now she is studying for a MFA in Arts Leadership at Seattle University.
She has volunteered and interned at the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Seattle Art Museum, Artists' Trust, Live Music Project, and Nordic Heritage Museum. She believes the arts can change people's lives. These study and work experiences give her motivation for arts administration.
